Last night CEO Ron Bergamini was honored at the Alley Pond Environmental Center Green Gala. Thank you to Council member Paul Vallone for presenting Ron with the award. This annual gala is vital to the organization by raising funds for the center and aids in the resources needed to reach their goal of establishing awareness, understanding, and appreciation of the environment and to preserving nature in an urban setting.
Alley Pond Environmental Center is a nonprofit organization in Queens enriching New York City community members on sustainability and the need to work together to save our planet.
APEC has been an educational hub for environmental studies for over 40 years! Their environmental education programs serve more than 53,000 children per year. They also offer family and adult programs to over 20,000 adults per year.
The beautiful facility offers nature trails traverse ponds, salt marshes, forests and meadows where visitors will see shorebirds, migrating flocks, and a variety of small animals. Visitors can also attend one of APEC’s many nature-oriented programs for children and adults.
Earlier in the week Action had the pleasure of visiting the center in person. We were greeted by APEC’s enthusiastic staff who gave us a tour of the beautiful nature trails, let us hold some of their animals, and even let us drop in on a few classes in session.
If you haven’t visited this hidden gem that boasts 655 acres of preserved land, we encourage you to do so!
