The SHIELD Awards is one of our most meaningful annual traditions, recognizing our frontline employees for their outstanding dedication, professionalism, and commitment to safety. As part of this celebration, each honoree is recognized for their achievements, with grand prizes for each of our winners—a reflection of our appreciation for the hardworking employees whose commitment keeps Interstate Waste Services moving every day.

Bring Your Child to Work Day

During Bring Your Child to Work Day, employees’ children have the opportunity to explore our workplace and meet members of our team. These experiences give them a firsthand look at what it takes to keep our communities clean while introducing the importance of sustainability and environmental responsibility. By educating the next generation today, we’re helping inspire a cleaner, greener future for tomorrow.



Safety Driven Calendar Contest

Every year, we host a calendar contest where employees can encourage their children, nieces, nephews, or other young relatives to create an original drawing that reflects what safety means to them. This tradition helps inspire future leaders while highlighting the importance of making safety a part of our daily lives. Once all submissions have been collected, our Safety team selects 12 winning entries to be featured in the Safety Driven Calendar. Each winning entry is assigned to a month of the year, creating a calendar that showcases their creativity and safety-focused artwork throughout the months. The calendars are then printed and distributed across the organization for all employees to enjoy.
