State-of-the-Art Recycling Facility

In 2013, Action/IWS proudly announced its opening of the redesigned material recycling facility located in the Bronx. Within this new material recycling facility is an optical sorter. An optical sorter uses infrared technology to detect and separate all seven grades of plastics, white paper from mixed paper and cardboard from the rest. This allows Action/IWS to extract higher quality recyclables out of the waste stream, diverting them from the landfill.

Our Award-Winning Facility

At our state-of-the-art Material Recovery Facility (MRF), we engage in the processing of paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, and aluminum. Our team has decades of experience in operating facilities and our innovative Bronx site is one of the most modern and efficient in the metropolitan area.

Single-Stream Recycling Program & Guidelines

The ease and importance of single stream recycling

Single stream recycling is the technology that allows all recyclables to be placed into a single container for collection and processing, and are then sold as raw materials to create new items such as newspaper, office paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, even steel and aluminum cans.

This allows our customers to place all clean recyclable items in one container, without the need to separate plastic from paper from cardboard, and so on. IWS will pick up these commingled recyclables and process them at our award-winning, advanced recycling center in the Bronx.

PLEASE make sure you DO NOT include any food waste or residual food waste with acceptable recycled items! All acceptable items MUST BE put into CLEAR plastic bags!

This video highlights the 3 easy to remember rules of recycling to ensure all recyclable materials are usable, and do not end up in the landfill.

Recycling Facts

  • Nearly 80% of all retailers and grocers recycle their cardboard.

  • Five plastic bottles (PET) recycled provides enough fiber to create one square feet of carpet or enough fiber fill to fill one ski jacket.
