In a recent Q&A with Waste Today, Interstate Waste Services’ Director of Rail Operations, Brett Boehm, provided insight into our waste-by-rail system and where he sees the transportation method heading in the future.
With three rail-served facilities in New Jersey and two gondola operation facilities in Connecticut and New Jersey, IWS is one of the largest transporters of waste-by-rail in the US. Our strategic network of rail assets transports nearly 2.5 million tons of waste annually to the Apex Landfill in Amsterdam, Ohio, which we acquired in 2020.
By utilizing a waste-by-rail system, we significantly reduce our dependence on long haul transportation and the number of trucks hauling waste on our roads, lowering our carbon footprint.
