What items can I place in an open-top roll-off dumpster?

What items are NOT accepted in open-top roll-off dumpsters?
No dirt, liquids, car parts, tires, compressed air/propane/gas tanks, paint cans, batteries, equipment with gas or oil still inside, medical waste or any hazardous materials. If you are unsure your items will be accepted, please call customer service 1-866-DIAL-IWS (1-866-342-5497)
Please note: If you are disposing of refrigeration units in an open-top/roll-off, the doors must be removed and the unit must be Freon free. Freon must be removed professionally, and the unit tagged by a certified technician.

How much space is needed for a dumpster to be placed on my property?
12 feet clearance (width) is needed to deliver a roll-off box. The waste industry’s standard unit of measure is cubic yards. Roll-off dumpsters generally fit into a common driveway, but we suggest you check our container specs before booking your dumpster. Open-top, roll-off dumpsters cannot be placed inside residential garages or structures. For placement inside a commercial building, garage or warehouse, please contact us.
Do I need to be at home or onsite when the dumpster is dropped-off or picked-up?
No. We will discuss where you would like the dumpster placed on your property at the time of your order and can arrange payment over the phone. If you are not onsite at the time of delivery/pick-up, we only require a contact name and phone number in case our driver has questions upon arrival.Â
Can you place the dumpster in the street?
Most municipalities will allow you to place a dumpster in the street, but please check with your local town/city prior. Some municipalities may require you to apply for a permit with the town/city and some may require a certificate of insurance from IWS (which we are happy to provide).
How long am I able to keep the dumpster?
We are flexible, and the rental time is based on your project. If your project runs over a few days, call us to reschedule your pick-up. For homeowners and small projects, dumpsters are typically onsite for 1 week. For large renovations or new construction, rented dumpsters may remain onsite for 2 weeks to a month.
Can I put yard waste and dirt/soil in the dumpster?
Yes, yard waste such as tree branches, grass clippings and leaves are accepted. We also accept sod and soil in roll-off dumpster, however it may be more cost effective to separate sod or soil from other types of waste. How many hauls/dumps do I get?
One haul/dump is included in the price at the time of rental. However, if you know you will need multiple dumpsters/hauls/dumps, we are happy to provide a quote based on what you think you may need. If you need an additional dump that you did not expect, call us and when we pick-up your dumpster, we will drop off a new one at the same time for uninterrupted disposal.
How high can I fill the dumpster?
You can only fill the dumpster to the maximum load level sign or the top rail of the dumpster. Over-filling the dumpster will cause the debris to slide out when the dumpster is loaded onto the truck. It is unsafe to transport overloaded or overweight dumpsters and is against DOT regulations. It is important that you communicate the type of material you plan to dispose of in the dumpster so that we can make sure that the dumpster does not exceed the maximum weight with each haul. Under no circumstance, will we transport loads that are unsafe or go against DOT regulations.
How do I schedule an early or late dumpster pick-up?
Your pick-up will be scheduled at the time of your order. If you get done early or need a few extra days, call us, and we will accommodate your needs.
When is payment due and how do I pay?
Payment for the dumpster is required in advanced via credit/debit card. For more information on payment terms/methods, please call us.
What else should I know about renting a dumpster?
- The pricing of your dumpster is based on size, weight, materials and location. Exceeding the dumpster’s weight limit, needing additional hauls, or mixing waste materials in the load that were not originally disclosed, can increase the original contracted price.
- Do not exceed the maximum load level sign on the top rail of your dumpster. Over-filled dumpsters can not be transported; it is unsafe and against DOT regulations to transport overloaded or overweight dumpsters. We are happy to deliver an additional box if you will exceed the capacity of your original order.
