On April 29th, 2017 our very own Steve Andreuk will be traveling to the Trinity Bar & restaurant in Floral Park NY to participate in a Head shaving fundraising event. This event is being hosted by the St. Baldrick’s Foundation to help raise money for Childhood Cancer Research. St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer- powered charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long, healthy lives.
Why shave heads? On the surface, most cancer affected patients lose their hair during treatment so we shave our heads to stand beside them so they are not alone. The true goal will be accomplished because while shaving, we raise the funds for life saving childhood cancer research.
As we all know cancer is a devastating, relentless disease. Imagining its effect on adults, it’s even harder to stomach children going through the pain. Roughly 300,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year and in the United States more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease. You are able to help by just donating as much as a Starbucks coffees worth or even a pack of cigarettes to St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Fundraising is the most powerful way to help research
Visit the St. Baldrick’s website to learn more about their goals and how much people have risen through the foundation. Learn more about the 5 children ambassadors that are chosen to represent the thousands of kids diagnosed with childhood cancer. Who would have thought that the first event held in 2000, having the goal of shaving 17 heads and raising $17,000 would turn into the world’s largest volunteer-powered charity for childhood cancer research. When you donate to St. Baldrick’s you are giving to more than 368 institutions that are treating kids with cancer.
By donating to St. Baldrick’s or participating in a head shaving event near you, you are giving kids their best chance at a happy childhood, free of cancer. Please consider helping Steve reach his goal by making a donation in his name, Steve Andreuk, at www.stbaldricks.org or by calling (888)880-2253. You can choose to show your support by joining in at an event in your area. If you chose not to participate in shaving your head, you can sign up to volunteer at an event to help make the event a success. There is always a high demand for barbers or cosmetologists, so if you, or anyone you know has a knack for shaving, consider donating your time to help out. The children of our future thank you for your support.
