Last week we had the pleasure of presenting our 3rd annual Action Environmental Group scholarship award. The winner was High School Senior Shannon Breun. Our CEO Ron Bergamini and her father IWS Packer Driver, Chris Breun were on hand to present Shannon with her award. Her captivating essay and incredible 4.1 GPA made Shannon the ideal recipient of this award.
In the fall she will begin the journey of receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in American Sign Language at Montclair State University. She fell in love with sign language in High School and wants to become an interpreter for the deaf.
This past June Action CEO Ron Bergamini testified at the NYC Sanitation Committee Hearing on zoning. You can read the DSNY’s commercial waste zoning plane here. Below is Ron’s testimony from the hearing.

Personal Protective Equipment or PPE is what we use to protect us from the hazards we may encounter in our work. It is important that you wear the proper PPE for the job you are performing and knowing how to wear it properly.

Safety University Topic of the Month: Protecting Workers from Heat Stress
The summer heat is great for lounging around at the beach or taking a dip in the pool, but in some cases prolonged exposure to heat can cause illness and death. OSHA tell us of certain precautions that can be taken any time temperatures are high and the job involves physical work.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that rear-end collisions are the most frequent type of collision that occurs on U.S. roads, making up 29 percent of all accidents. By practicing these simple tips, it will greatly reduce the risk of having a rear end accident.

Today we want to highlight the amazing journey of our Billing Manager April Levine. April is an amazing mother of two who was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2015. After kicking cancers butt she turned to CKO Kickboxing to learn how to really kick some butt.
Last night CEO Ron Bergamini was honored at the Alley Pond Environmental Center Green Gala. Thank you to Council member Paul Vallone for presenting Ron with the award. This annual gala is vital to the organization by raising funds for the center and aids in the resources needed to reach their goal of establishing awareness, understanding, and appreciation of the environment and to preserving nature in an urban setting.
We had the pleasure of presenting our 2nd annual Safest Driver of the Year award to Alfred “Mike” Sandoval. Mike’s family was on hand to present him with this honor. Mike and his family won an all-expense paid trip to Disney World for being our safest driver in 2018.
