Ron joined Action as CEO in April 2007 after a twenty-year career as an attorney representing various sectors of the business community, including many organizations in the solid waste and recycling industries. Immediately before joining Action, he served as General Counsel to Interstate Waste Services.
He received his undergraduate degree in Finance, from New York University and his JD from Suffolk University in Boston, MA. Presently, Ron sits on the advisory board of the NYC Business Integrity Commission, is a trustee of the NYC Citizens Budget Commission and a member of the Board of Regents for Felician University. He is vice chair of the NYC chapter of the National Waste & Recycling Association. He is also a member co-founder and supporter of the NYC Safety Symposiums which raises issues of improved safety and worker conditions.
Ron is the President of the Columbians, a philanthropic organization in Bergen County, and a former columnist for BC magazines for five years. Ron and his partner Mike DiBella have also supported Hopes and Heroes, Wounded Warriors, Susan G. Koman Foundation and the October Woman foundation.
Chief Operating Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors
Mike’s career in the solid waste industry spans over 3 decades. In 1985, he began working for the family business, DiBella Sanitation, Inc. which was located in northern New Jersey. Starting out as a truck driver. Mike eventually worked his way through all aspects of the business to become general manager by 1990.
In 1991, Mike started his own business in Albany NY, Environmental Waste Industries, Inc. There, he developed EWI from a small startup business into a full collection and transfer operation over his 7 years of ownership.
Mike’s next venture brought him back to NJ where he founded Interstate Waste Services, Inc. in 1999. Through organic growth and acquisition, IWS quickly grew from a small collection business in northern NJ and NY state, to become a an industry leader in the region. Mike spent 7 years as chairman of the board and chief operating officer until 2006.
In 2007, Mike moved on from IWS to purchase Action Carting Environmental Services, Inc. located in New York City. Mike and the Action team quickly began acquiring collection businesses in NYC, where there hadn’t been a consolidator for over 10 years.
In November 2007, Action acquired the collection assets of Waste Management of NYC, which doubled the size of the company. From that point until today, Action has completed more than 15 acquisitions, including the assets of Republic Services of NYC and Advanced Disposal Services, of NJ.
Organic growth and acquisition has enabled Mike and The Action Environmental Group to become one of the largest, privately held, solid waste collection business in the US.
Chief Financial Officer
Brian Giambagno, who is Chief Financial Officer of The Action Environmental Group (“Action”), is an accomplished financial professional with over 25 years of public accounting and industry experience. He has in-depth knowledge of various industries including business services, technology, distribution and manufacturing. Brian also has a wealth of experience in managing private equity backed mid-market enterprises including equity raises and banking relationships. Prior to joining Action, Brian was CFO of Hudson News Distributors.
Brian began his career with Deloitte & Touche when he then moved on to hold various finance and operating roles at Berlitz International, Inc., Bowne & Co. and Global Document Solutions, Inc. Mr. Giambagno, who is a certified public accountant, earned a B.A. in Economics and Accounting from Rutgers College. He also holds an MBA from Rutgers Graduate School of Management. Mr. Giambagno is also the recipient of the NJBIZ CFO of the Year 2015 and CFO Studio CFO Innovation Award 2015.
Director of Sales
Joe Burke is The Director of Sales for The Action Environmental Group, Inc. and also serves as a member of its Executive Team.
Joe has a Bachelor of Science degree from Seton Hall University which he attended on a full scholarship for wrestling. Joe is a Division 1, 2x All-American. During his tenure at Seton Hall, Joe was ranked number one in the country for much of his senior year. In 2013 Joe was inducted into the Seton Hall Athletic Hall of Fame.
Joe has over 22 years of experience in the solid waste and recycling industry. His first job out of college in 1996 was a sales representative position for DiBella Sanitation in Park Ridge, NJ. In 1999 DiBella Sanitation was sold and a group of former DiBella employees started Interstate Waste Services, Inc. the next day. Over the next 6 years, they brought the company revenue from 2.5MM to 120MM and in 2006 the company was sold to AIG. The following year that same group broke off from Interstate Waste Services, Inc. and bought into Action Carting Environmental Services, Inc. in NYC. At the time Action was about 20MM. They grew Action to 120MM and in 2013 bought back the business they sold in 2006, Interstate Waste Services, Inc. Today the Action Environmental Group is a 300MM company with over 1,000 employees providing solid waste and recycling services for over 40,000 customers in NY and NJ.
Joe headed up the Starbucks Cup Pilot Program and is a member of Global Green USA, BOMA and the October Women Foundation.
Vice President of Operations
With a career in the solid waste industry spanning more than three decades, Tom started his career in 1986 with DiBella Sanitation, Inc. as a driver. Since then, he worked his way up through all levels of the operation, ending his time with DiBella Sanitation, Inc. in 1998 as an Operations Manager. That same year, Tom went to work for Interstate Waste Services, which serviced northern New Jersey and southern New York State. After nearly ten years as the Director of Operations with Interstate, Tom then joined the Action Environmental Group, the parent company of Interstate Waste Services, in April of 2008 where he now holds the position of Executive Vice President of Operations.
