Job Highlights

The Dispatch Support position will play an integral role in the dispatch operations of our Action side of business; working closely with the NYC Operations managers and team. The Dispatch Support role is the first point of contact for all operational staff at the beginning and/or end of various shifts. The position is based on a five day workweek and every other Saturday.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Check-in drivers and collection helpers around shift times
  • Enter surveys, hours, miles, fuel and correct drivers/helpers names from trucking routes
  • Split weights for routes if trucks are used for more than one route, or if they need repairs
  • Receive occasional customer service calls when transferred from department and communicate with drivers on routes
  • Contact sales and/or customer service if a customer needs an increase or decrease service
  • Respond to driver/helper inquiries throughout routes
  • Re-route day routes to missed stops if there is an issue that can be postponed
  • Monitor Manhattan dispatch email for any issues and provide solutions
  • Transfer helper hours that leave from NYC and stay in NYC
  • Process injury/accident reports and ensure the information is accurately relayed to the Safety & Risk department
  • Control monthly supply order and adjust when needed
  • Ensure proper paperwork is completed and accurate
  • File paperwork (i.e. disciplinary write ups, applications, other driver documents, etc.)
  • Additional duties as assigned under management’s discretion

Work Environment

  • This Dispatch Support role will be based in our Jersey City, NJ location, however occasional travel to the Teaneck, NJ headquarters as well as other locations throughout NY and NJ is to be expected. (No over-night travel expected.)
  • We have an open and friendly office environment.
  • The Dispatch Support position requires mainly sitting and typing throughout the day.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • High school/GED education completed, higher education is a plus.
  • Entry-level role, however, administrative and clerical experience is preferred
  • Experience from the sanitation industry is strongly preferred.
  • Must have advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Fluency in English required, Spanish bilingual is a plus.

Heavy Duty Diesel Technicians - NY/NJ Locations

Our Heavy Duty Diesel Technicians play a key role in keeping our company running. Without skilled Technicians who know how to diagnose and repair issues safely and quickly, providing an excellent work place for our employees and exceptional service to our customers would be next to impossible.

Job Highlights

Our Heavy Duty Diesel Technicians perform inspection, diagnosis, preventative maintenance, and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment, including diesel heavy trucks and engines. Utilizing diagnostic software, the Technician is responsible for interpreting failure modes and initiate or assign necessary repairs. At times, the Technician may be on call, and required to assist with emergency breakdowns.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintains advanced knowledge to diagnose and repair mechanical problems on heavy equipment.
  • Performs repairs and assigned preventative maintenance services.
  • Estimates time and material cost on vehicle repairs and requisition of new parts.
  • Conduct safety checks on vehicles.
  • Completes required paperwork utilizing fleer maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting part usage, and accounting for repair time.
  • Reviews, completes, or assigns repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Company safety protocols and OSHA standards.
  • Assists Sr. Technicians in the completion of project work.

Work Environment

  • We are continuously investing in equipment, and many of our trucks are less than 2 years old.
  • The Heavy Duty Diesel Technician will primarily be working out of our Jersey City, NJ location, however occasional travel to other sites as well as assisting with emergency breakdowns will be required.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided.
  • The Heavy Duty Diesel Technician position may be required to lift up to 50 pounds. Frequent squatting and standing is required.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • A valid driver’s license is required. CDL preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in job duties.
  • Experience with troubleshooting/repairing DPF systems diagnostic software such as Premium Tech Tool (Mack), Allison transmission, Cummins, CAT, Peterbilt, and Paccar.
  • Yellow Iron experience and/or experience as a Mechanic or Technician for a refuge company is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of applicable DOT and OSHA standards and regulations.
  • Must be able to speak and read English well enough to converse with colleagues, drivers and dispatch, and be able to make legible entries on reports and records.
  • Must be able to meet the physical and safety requirements of the position.

Truck Drivers - Roll Off (NY/NJ Locations)

JOB DESCRIPTION
Our Roll-Off drivers are responsible for the hauling of construction debris typically from large high volume construction sites. The driver is responsible for performing assigned duties on container delivery and hauling of industrial roll-off routes. This physically strenuous position involves mounting and dismounting a heavy-duty truck numerous times each day.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned and may vary by location.

  • Routes may require Drivers to navigate through congested communities and confined or tight areas in city locations. Backing skills are essential as a large percentage of the time spent servicing customers is done in reverse. Our drivers routinely climb in and out of the truck cab to service customer accounts and at times need to climb on to the truck containers to smooth loads or secure tarps for transport.
  • In addition, the position involves lifting (up to 50 - 75 pounds), pushing, pulling, and bending. Our drivers, who have safe driving records, also communicate professionally with customers and dispatch at all times, and comply with all local, state, and federal transportation regulations and with Company policies.
  • Required work hours may be up to the legal limits allowed and may require weekend and/or holiday work. Work hours will vary by route. Drivers must be able to read and understand a map, complete daily driver logs as well as pre and post trip truck inspections. This position will require you to work in all weather extremes including extreme hot or cold, wet or dry conditions.

Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.
A. Education and Experience
At least 1 year of experience within the last 7 years operating a vehicle requiring a commercial driver's license (CDL).
B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older

  • Must have a Class A or B CDL with airbrakes endorsement valid for the state in which you are applying to work in.
  • Clean driving record

Truck Drivers - Packer (NY/NJ Locations)

JOB DESRCIPTION
At Action Environmental Services our Commercial Drivers operate rear load trucks to service commercial routes removing and transporting waste or recyclables in fulfillment of customer contracts. This position will service approximately 200 to 500 commercial customers per day according to the assigned routes. The waste will then need to be transferred to the appropriate station, landfill or drop-off location.
